St. Paul's was founded by a
small group of visionaries seeking to establish a "family church" in the
fast-growing southeast section of Shreveport, Louisiana.
In 1949 these people, who
were at the time members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in downtown
Shreveport, met and signed a petition to create such a mission. The
fledgling church soon acquired a 7-acre tract of land near the corner of
Southfield Road and Youree Drive, and construction began on the first phase
of a total church plant. In October of 1951 the church facility was dedicated, and in
January, 1952, St. Paul's was received into the diocese with full parish status.
Within 8 years the phenomenal growth of this parish
led to the construction of the current main church, which is capable of seating over 700
worshippers. The programs offered by the parish grew as well. All of the necessary lay
organizations flourished and a Day School was established to help serve the needs of
pre-school children. Since its inception, St. Paul's has had five rectors:
The Reverend Guido
F. Verbeck III (1996 - 2011)
The Reverend
Geoffrey Chapman (1990 - 1995)
The Reverend David
Greer (1979 - 1989)
The Reverend James
Buckner (1970 -1979)
The Reverend Meade
Brown (1950 -1969)
